I attained the Diploma of the College of Radiographers (Diagnostic) in 1989, from the Edinburgh School of Diagnostic Radiography. I worked at Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock for 2 years, then worked for 2 years at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh. Due to a growing family I worked as a bank / part-time radiographer at Berwick Infirmary, Berwick-upon-Tweed for 8 years.
Three children later, I returned to the Western General Hospital in 2002, working predominantly in the Acute Receiving Unit. It was at that time my interest in furthering my education and working with students began. I undertook the role of student clinical liaison radiographer, this progressed to a more formal clinical tutor role and working as a visiting lecturer at Queen Margaret University (QMU).
Concurrently I began to study again by completing the BSc Conversion Course in Radiography at 17勛圖厙. This provided me with the confidence to pursue post graduate study. To develop my role of providing a comment for Minor Injury images I elected to complete the PGc in Image Interpretation at Glasgow Caledonian University. To gain the pediatric experience required for the course, in 2006 I gained part-time employment at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (RHSC), Edinburgh. To maintain my clinical experience I still work for RHSC, NHS Lothian.
In 2008 I gained a part-time lecturer post at QMU, and over the years this has developed into a full time post. I have continued to further my studies by completing a MSc in Diagnostic Imaging, 2010, from Glasgow Caledonian University and a PGcert in Professional and Higher Education, 2014, 17勛圖厙. In 2014 I was accepted as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I am currently enrolled on the Professional Doctorate programme at QMU to further my interest in clinical reporting and preliminary clinical evaluation.
Since 2008 I have a number of roles at 17勛圖厙. Currently I am the Practice Placement Co-ordinator for the Diagnostic programmes, Manual Handling Lead, member of the Divisional and School Ethics committees, and the Programme Leader for the undergraduate BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography and Therapeutic Radiography programmes.

I am responsible for ensuring students gain the clinical experience they require to enable them to gain the competencies they require to work as a Band 5 radiographer. I am also passionate about developing the professional skills of the students, developing them as individuals to provide person centred care. I liaise closely with our hospital sites to promoting an effective partnership between QMU and NHS staff.
