Intellectual Property Policy and Open Innovation
Across QMU, a range of outputs and much know-how are created via research projects and other academic activities. QMU is committed to open innovation and actively promotes the use of intellectual property developed by our staff and students to achieve wider social and economic benefits, maximising the impact of our research and innovation activities.
To accomplish this, we encourage and support researchers to identify commercial opportunities arising from their research and work with them to evaluate and develop these opportunities into commercially viable outcomes.
Our commitment to open innovation is reflected in our IP policy, which promotes easy IP. The aim of easy IP is to maximise the scope for collaboration and the transfer of university knowledge for the benefit of society. Aligning closely with our institutional values, mission and commitment to impact and translational research, our IP policy is designed to maximise user engagement with our research.
Our IP policy does not replace traditional routes for exploitation of high commercial value opportunities or externally funded research.

QMU Spin Out and Community Interest Companies
QMUs proposals for the QMU Innovation Park (QMUIP) will support economic development both locally and nationally. It will provide a creative space where productive relationships between businesses, the university sector and the wider community can flourish and where entrepreneurial thinking and action can be nurtured on a local and national basis.
