Louise McGlynn is a Lecturer in Teacher Education within the Psychology, Sociology and Education Division at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh. Louise is also a Member of International Professional Development Association, Scotland.

My background and experience is within the primary education sector and prior to joining Queen Margaret University, I held a number of posts at school and local authority level.Ìý As part of the Service and School Improvement Team, I was a local authority Probation Supporter.Ìý The main part of this role involved meeting with and monitoring probationer teachers’ classroom practice, as well as creating and delivering a CLPL agenda which supported probationers in developing the necessary skills and knowledge to reach the GTCS Standard for Full Registration.Ìý In addition to this role, I have also held posts as a principal teacher and class teacher.Ìý Ìý
My main research interests lie within the professional development of teachers.Ìý I have guest tutored on the MSc in Professional Education and Leadership programme at University of Stirling.Ìý Supporting the delivery of two modules which focused on engagement with professional practice and middle leadership principles and practices.Ìý I have also supported the delivery of practitioner enquiry CLPL at school, cluster and local authority level. Ìý
As a practitioner, I have had the opportunity to support the development of a number of areas within classroom practice, giving me the opportunity to work with a range of agencies and professionals.Ìý As part of my responsibilities as a middle leader, I have worked closely with speech and language therapists, educational psychologists, One Parent Family Service and Scottish Traveller Education Programme (STEP) to identify barriers and support inclusion within the classroom.Ìý Through engagement with a local authority partnership with Tapestry, to which a key advisor was Dylan Wiliam, I have an in-depth knowledge of the theories and practices of formative assessment.Ìý ÌýI have also worked closely with SCILT (Scotland’s National Centre for Languages) as well as the British Council to support the development of 1 + 2 at local authority level.Ìý
I am currently working towards a Doctor of Education qualification at the University of Stirling.Ìý As a general overview, I have particular interests in teacher professional learning, teacher professional identity and professionalism, and education policy.Ìý
