Magdalena Schamberger is an independent creative collaborator, theatre director, consultant and teaching artist, who works at the intersection between arts, health and education. She is passionate about using the performing arts to engage with older people, particularly those living with dementia.ÌýÌý
Magdalena has trained with Philippe Gaulier, Monica Pagneux, Pierre Byland, Jos Houben, John Wright and Nadine George and combines 30 years of experience in physical & visually driven theatre and clowning with 20 years of creatively engaging with people living with dementia. She is Co-founder and former Artistic Director of Hearts & Minds and creator of the Scottish Clowndoctors programme and the unique Elderflowers programme.
Magdalena has developed Artful Minds for artists of all art-forms and Curious Shoes, aÌý collaborative performance for people living with dementia and their loved ones.Ìý Curious Shoes has toured extensively to theatres, care homes, day & community centres to great acclaim throughout the UK in 2019.Ìý
Magdalena is currently working on a new search and development project for people with dementia in care homes, entitled In the Light of Day. The project focuses on hands, gloves and gestures - a reimagining of beauty and tenderness in the age of PPE.
When travel is possible, she teaches Compassionate Clowning across the globe.Ìý
Magdalena is an Honorary Professor with the School of Health Sciences at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, and a TimeSlips Creative Storytelling Certified Facilitator and Master Trainer.ÌýÌý
She is also Creative Director at bold (Bringing Out Leaders in Dementia), an innovative and interactive social leadership programme for people who are living with dementia across Scotland. The 5-year project is delivered in partnership by Edinburgh University and Queen Margaret University and is funded by the Life Changes Trust.Ìý
Bold focuses on playfulness and arts-based techniques to encourage creativity, innovation and personal development. It is currently delivered online.ÌýÌý
