Bruce has been a director, theatre maker and acting teacher for 20 years, since graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2000. He has worked for a range of theatre companies including the National Theatre of Scotland, The Arches, TAG, Hull Truck and the National Youth Theatre.
Bruce is also Artistic Director of two theatre companies – Nonsense Room Productions and This is My Story Productions. Most recent productions as Director include: ‘You Choose’ & ‘Shark in The Park’ (UK tours) adapted from the books by Nick Sharratt for Nonsense Room. Previously Nonsense Room Bruce also directed the tours of ‘The Hairy Maclary & Friends Show’ in both the UK and Internationally - Including a seven week residency at the Sydney Opera House.
For This Is My Story Bruce directed ‘A War of Two Halves’ – a site-specific piece performed at Heart of Midlothian Football Club’s, Tynecastle Park Stadium. In 2021 the company will premiere a new work ‘As Tough as Old Boots’ about the huge popularity of Women’s Football after the First World War.
As well as creating work Bruce has been a Lecturer or Visiting Lecturer at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland on both their Acting and Musical Theatre Programs and previously at QMU between 2005 and 2011. Most recently he was Curriculum and Quality Leader at Dundee & Angus College for the Performing Arts as well as lecturing in Acting for Screen, Voice work and Professional Practice.
Bruce's seminars, classes and lectures focus on Acting for Screen and Media. He is also responsible for directing productions and coordinating and directing the Industry showcase.
Alongside this Bruce also teaches on the BA Hons Drama Course and the BA Hons Acting and Performance Course.
