Richard Bent (BA, MBA) is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader in the Queen Margaret Business School. He is also a full member of the Family and Smaller Enterprises (FASE) group.

Richard Bent isÌýa Senior Lecturer. He has published over 22 journal articles in the areas of SME, family businesses and retail, with numerous presentations at a range of UK and International Conferences. A regular contributor to BBC Radio Scotland programmes in the areas of topical consumer and retail issues. Involvement in consultancy work through a wide range of Innovation projects ensures that his teaching and interaction with business and business support agencies are keptÌýrooted in both practical realities and theory. Richard has extensive experiences in both leading validation panels or as a Convenor of UG and PGÌývalidation panels at 17³Ô¹ÏÍø. An additional interest is in the areas of theme parks. Richard is also a Trustee of the Teapot Trust a Scottish based Art Therapy charity.

Developing from initial work that focused on minority ethnic independent retail communities, my research focus, based on business evidence and situational factors has moved more towards challenges and development within the wide and diverse SME Community. This has opened up a number of research opportunities including the role of family and leadership dynamics. Additionally more recent work has included developments and management/generational issues in family owned businesses
